Brazil stocks higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.92%

Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.92%.

The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were CSN Mineracao SA (BVMF:CMIN3), which rose 5.13% or 0.25 points to trade at 5.12 at the close. Meanwhile, IRB Brasil Resseguros SA (BVMF:IRBR3) added 4.21% or 2.11 points to end at 52.21 and Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (BVMF:CSNA3) was up 4.10% or 0.32 points to 8.13 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were YDUQS Participacoes SA (BVMF:YDUQ3), which fell 5.71% or 0.52 points to trade at 8.58 at the close. Hapvida Participacoes e Investimentos (BVMF:HAPV3) declined 5.49% or 0.13 points to end at 2.24 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (BVMF:CSAN3) was down 4.98% or 0.43 points to 8.20.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the B3 Stock Exchange by 540 to 399 and 55 ended unchanged.

Shares in IRB Brasil Resseguros SA (BVMF:IRBR3) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.21% or 2.11 to 52.21.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.29% to 28.64.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.43% or 11.81 to $2,739.09 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.50% or 0.39 to hit $77.46 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.08% or 0.27 to trade at $327.42 .

USD/BRL was up 0.46% to 6.08, while EUR/BRL unchanged 0.01% to 6.23.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 109.24.
